Delivering a safe, compliant electrical installation with minimal disruption

QPES Ltd recently carried out an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) at a small industrial unit on behalf of a specialist gas installation company.

The client required a routine inspection, scheduled in line with best practice guidance under BS 7671.

The inspection needed to be carried out during normal working hours, within a live operational environment.

Key considerations included:

• A number of Code 2 (potentially dangerous) issues – This triggered the issue of an Unsatisfactory EICR requiring the need for remedial action.
• Several Code 3 (improvement recommended) observations

Notable findings included:

• Incomplete bonding connections to steelwork
• Lack of appropriate safety labelling
• Faulty RCD socket outlet
• Insufficient RCD protection on certain circuits
• Wiring and containment issues in lighting installations
• Meter tail containment improvements required

These are typical issues that develop over time, even in well-maintained installations — and exactly what an EICR is designed to identify early.

• All remedial works were quoted and completed
• Relevant corrections were certified through Minor Works Certificates
• Documentation was provided to sit alongside the original EICR

Following completion of remedials, the client achieved:
