High Capacity Power Infrastructure Installation for a New Heat Recovery Unit
Project Overview: Industrial Electrical Infrastructure for Heat Recovery System
A leading UK manufacturer invested in a new Heat Recovery Unit (HRU) to improve site energy efficiency, reduce operational costs, and support long-term sustainability objectives.
To bring the system online, the client required a specialist industrial electrical contractor capable of installing high-capacity power infrastructure to supply multiple large industrial fans and a central Motor Control Centre (MCC).
We delivered a complete installation — from heavy-duty cable ladder containment to large-format XLPE/SWA sub-main cabling — providing a safe, compliant and high-performance electrical supply for the new HRU.

Project Scope: High Capacity Fan & MCC Power Supply
The installation required dedicated sub-main supplies to:
- 160 kW Exhaust Fan — via 4 core 240mm² XLPE/SWA
- 132 kW Intake Fan — via 4 core 185mm² XLPE/SWA
- 60 kW MCC Control Panel — via 4 core 50mm² XLPE/SWA
All works were delivered to industrial-grade specifications, ensuring long-term reliability within a high-demand manufacturing environment.
Our Electrical Solution: Design & Installation
Heavy Duty Cable Ladder Infrastructure
We installed a robust cable ladder containment system designed to safely support and route multiple high-capacity sub-main cables.
The system was:
- Engineered to carry heavy-load XLPE/SWA cabling
- Installed to maintain optimal bend radii and mechanical protection
- Positioned to avoid interference with plant operations and future maintenance access
This provided the structural backbone for the electrical supply to the Heat Recovery Unit.
High Capacity XLPE/SWA Sub-Main Cabling Installation
To meet the HRU’s operational load requirements, our engineers installed and terminated:
4 core 240mm² XLPE/SWA — supplying the 160 kW exhaust fan, designed for continuous heavy-duty operation.
4 core 185mm² XLPE/SWA — feeding the 132 kW intake fan, ensuring voltage stability and performance over distance.
4 core 50mm² XLPE/SWA — powering the 60 kW MCC control panel, providing coordinated control of the entire heat recovery system.
All cabling was correctly glanded, terminated, tested and commissioned in accordance with current electrical regulations and industry standards.
Testing, Verification & Certification
Upon completion of installation works:
- All cable terminations were inspected and tested
- Load, continuity and insulation resistance checks were carried out
- Compliance was verified against relevant electrical regulations
- Full installation certification was issued
This ensured the HRU electrical infrastructure met both regulatory requirements and the manufacturer’s operational performance criteria.
